English “low middle class”: that was the “caption”. Faithfully reconstructed with an eye to Naples, it accompanies a great staging by Carlo Cecchi, with a strong English/Neapolitan flavor.
SCENOGRAPHY
The director, Alberto Rosselli, imagined places that would lead to a feeling of comprssion and restlessness, to return Strindberg’s text in spatial terms. The characters are forced by internal paths, made physical by the scene/labyrinth that almost shows the public theri secrets.
This labyrinth is the metaphor of all their family relationships, of the changing hierachies. The 40-square-meter inclined platform is acted out as if it were a space, a single space which expresses the relationships between the characters.
